Travelling Anorexicallly

August 2nd, 2011 posted by admin

With summer holidays becoming a luxury that most people are either unable or more often unwilling to shell out money on this year, it’s not surprising that tour and flight operators are all chomping at the bit to undercut each other on summer deals. Whilst many rely on the booming immigrant population to line their pockets on travelling home to see family, some are realising that the economy is forcing people to hold back and wait till they have more money.

Travel isn’t that expensive if you plan ahead and a fascinating article that appeared in The Sun online recently shows that people are not spending wisely when they do get the chance to travel. Many travellers seem to forget about the extras that they spend money on once they are on the move. Even families are not budgeting in the various useless items that everyone buys once at the beach e.g. Jelly shoes and buckets and spades for the kids. If you take away awll the non-essentials from your costings you’ll be surprised how much money you’re left with. It could be used on your trip or just for putting back in the kitty.

One thing so many people sorely forget to factor into their travel costs is their phone. With so many of us used to texting and uploading photos to Facebook whilst we’re travelling, we often neglect to check how much this roaming use if costing us. Whilst the recent Ofcom ruling forcing operators to lower their roaming charges is coming into effect, mobile costs when abroad are still high. It is well worth doing some research when planning your trip to see if there are any better deals out there then your current package. There is a fabulous range of options available at www.abroadband.com that will aid any traveller in saving money on their data and phone usage when abroad.

Another thing people forget to factor into their travel cost is the amount of luggage they take with them. Before packing ask yourself if you really need 20 shirts for a 10 day journey. If worst comes to the worst you can always do some washing in a launderette whilst you’re away. Having excess luggage will firstly increase the baggage handling charges incurred on everyone when travelling by plane. Secondly, having unnecessary luggage makes it harder for you to move about even if you do have a car. By limiting your packing to essential items only, you’ll save yourself both money and time.

Airfares are another thing people fail to check on properly. Instead of flying direct to your destination have you ever thought of booking a flight to an airport that’s nearby instead? You can save hundreds of pounds by avoiding direct flights to your destination.

With the world’s economy staggering through a bout of anorexia, travellers and holidaymakers are afraid of going anywhere this year. Don’t be though, as with careful planning you can afford to go wherever you want.
