Showing off probably is not the most important thing however spending quality time with your family and friends probably is. Consider having a potluck dinner where everyone can bring a different type of food. Another idea is to have a bar that contains fixings for a single dish and people can make it themselves; this could be tacos, burritos, or sandwiches.
With a bit of planning you can have your party on a small budget. Try to use the ideas mentioned above as way to decorate and serve food in an inexpensive way. Remember the focus for the party is to spend time with family and friends not to go into debt.
