Stay Connected Economically While You Travel

Stay Connected Economically While You Travel

When you are on a trip, particularly, one of those long-drawn trips that keep you away from your family and loved ones for a long time, you need to consider several budget related points too. There are indeed a number of things which could cost you a lot if you didn’t consider finding their economical alternatives or if you didn’t learn the best money-saving practices involving them. Staying touch with your pals, colleagues, friends and family is indeed one of them. Following are certain tips that could help you reduce your communication budget while you are on a trip:

  • Find the most cost-effective international roaming plan from your cellular service provider. Also, check out several plans from other operators for roaming worldwide. After identifying certain most inexpensive international roaming plans you can prioritize your choices in the order their service availability in the areas you are going to travel. This is because, not all mobile operators provide international roaming services in all the countries and areas.
  • Send your office colleagues a quick e-mail a week (or more) before you embark on your travel to allow them sufficient time to get their concerns addressed from you. If you reduce the number of incoming calls from your office colleagues while you’re travelling, you can keep yourself away from your stressful work and save on the incoming call charges as well. Also, set an out-of-office autoreply on your e-mail client informing people about your unavailability and to set their expectation right about your return.
  • Buy a wifi-enabled phone that has online messenger software installed. And then, you can connect with people wherever you get opportunities to access public wireless network to surf the Internet. Some phones support the Internet telephony using some messenger software, such as Skype, and they are really very cost effective when you’re away from home.

Of course, staying in touch with your loved ones is something you would always want, regardless of where you are, and budget shouldn’t come your way doing it. This is why consideration of the above tips is crucial for staying connected without having a hole drilled in your pocket.

Flashpacking

Flashpacking

At a time when everyone is looking for change behind the sofa, running away from reality seems like a pipe dream that only a few can afford. We all want to escape, but we don’t always want to sacrifice the creature comforts we take for granted when at home.

There are many options available to the budget traveller and for example if you come from the South East you can look for London Cheap Flights to get an idea on how much your initial outlay will be.

You don’t have to wear the same pants and shirt for three days if you want to experience budget backpacking. There is a new trend which is being called ‘Flashpacking’. It’s basically budget back packing for the 21st Century. Sounds like an expensive method of travelling doesn’t it? Don’t let the name mislead you though. Flashpackers are backpackers who just expect a little more out of their trip then the smelly cliché of someone wearing the same shoes for the entire trip.

Flashpackers will usually carry a digital camera and a laptop with them to record their journey and update a blog with pictures and comments for people back home to follow. Flashpackers don’t want to tour the world like paupers. They want to enjoy the local food and culture as much as the average tourist on holiday. And why not! After all isn’t the point of travelling to have a good time? It’s harder to enjoy yourself when you’re lugging about a ten ton elephant on your back all the time.
