Pyramids in Egypt

Pyramids in Egypt

Hardly is there a destination in the world with so much of historical meaning like Egypt. Once the most developed civilisation of the Ancient times, the country now is proud with its architectural, historical and cultural monuments that fascinate thousands of tourists around the world, making Egypt one of the most wanted destinations in the Arab World and North Africa.
Probably the most fascinating stories and historical facts about Egypt come from the pyramids – consider them sculptures, buildings, scientific equipment or temples – it is up to you to determine their very first reason for existing, what matters is that these architectural miracles of the ancient world have become not only the subject of various explorations and scientific research but also the place where people can truly estimate the genius of human kind and the birthplace of modern architecture.
In Egypt, the pyramids are widely spread but the ones near the capital Cairo remain the most significant and explored subjects in history. This is why you should visit the city and enjoy a vacation that would almost bring you back to Ancient times. The city itself, apart from the attraction of pyramids, offers a large range of opportunities to literally touch the history – the large number of historical museums would show you artifacts from the old Egyptian civilisation, the well preserved historical sites around the world would give you the idea about life in Egypt ages ago and the pleasant atmosphere in the old parts of the city would contribute significantly to your overall experience. As for the pyramids – a trip to these ancient architectural monuments would be an unforgettable experience and an opportunity to see one of the Seven Wonders of The World. So if still considering your next destination to visit like the val d isere ski or wherever, do not hesitate and book your holiday in Egypt – a place with rich culture and offering the chance to explore and see some of the most important places in the history of men.

Overnight in Cerbere

After a fantastic 3 night stay in the wonderful city of Barcelona, a friend and I decided to continue our European travels by travelling to Paris. We stood in line at the train station to book our tickets with our Interrail passes when we hit a snag that many travellers between France and Spain must hit on a regular basis. That snag seems to be as follows: if you are in Spain, you cannot book train travel while in France, only up until the border, and vice versa.

Throughout our entire holiday, we had not encountered any such problems, travelling freely between many countries such as Austria, Italy and Germany quite easily. We booked our Ski Insurance before we left, so we didn’t have to worry about it while we were traveling. This issue does leave the traveller with a big problem. For example, when we travelled from Italy to Barcelona, we had booked reservations on several trains from Rome all the way to Part Bou on the Spanish/French border. However, once there, with 2 hours of travel still remaining, we were forced to stand, and pay an extra charge as we were now in Spain.

A very similar, but far more frustrating thing happened as we travelled to France. We were told that an overnight sleeper train from Barcelona to Paris would cost us around 75 Euros each, which was far beyond our budget. Instead, we were told that we could travel from Barcelona to Cerbere, on the Spanish/French border and get the night train from there and it would cost only 20 Euros, as we would be in France. When we got to Cerbere, we found out that around 30 other people had the same idea and, to make it worse, the night train was fully booked. So, without any options other than to wait until 6 am the next day, we wandered into Cerbere, a nice little harbour village, found a bench and waited out the 8 hours until our train would arrive.
